Once upon a time, there was a grandma... who wasn't quite sure
if she needed or wanted or even knew what to do with a computer.
(suspense music here... dum... dum... dum... dum...)
She played & practiced with one in the town & would sit;
To see if she could learn how to use it & like it a bit.
While being impressed with what it could do,
Was it practical or needed she thought through & through.
Then her kids surprised her & bought her one for a gift.
Thinking it would help her; through much info to sift.
The decision was made... ok... I'll give it a go;
After all it's a gift, I'll say "thank you" & so...
Now that she had it in her very own home,
She could use it whenever she wanted to roam...
She began using email, making purchases & banking online.
She was getting quite into it & liked calling it mine.
New words she was learning: desktop, modem... the net.
It opened a new world & renewed friendships, you bet.
That she thought was amazing & fun.
Friends could think thoughts, & she'd have them before the day's done.
Then came Facebook & let me tell you again...
She was more that a bit reluctant about what it could do.
Happy in her own little internet world that she knew.
But friends coaxed her saying, "you'll join sooner or later still.
It might as well be now & like it, you will."
And so she did. And those friends were right.
Because for her, it was quite a sight!
She was pleased & amazed to see pics & receive a virtual gift.
On a dreary day, it was special & gave quite a lift.
As the days went by, her list of "friends" grew,
And she felt more connected to those she knew.
Then mindjolt competitions, & the race for first place.
With our very own pic displayed in the honour's case.
We discovered again how competitive we were.
No one was eager for second place; that was for sure.
Now, all was good & well, & she thought that might be the end of the story,
But no... not the happily ever after part yet. And she's not sorry.
Because it was then that friends started to blog...
Now some were reluctant & most eager to stay in that fog.
But others began, were creative, entertaining & smart.
Once again, this grandma's pace was more of a crawl than a dart...
But after a bout with a cold & being awake one night
She forged ahead with her blog... with great might!
Now she could display pics of the kids & books she had read,
Quotes galore & lists of the things meaningful in her head,
You can even leave a comment or two;
To let her know you've visited to see what is new.
Well it looked so impressive, for the camp she made one too
With pictures & info of all that was new.
She smiled with the memories as she typed in the lines.
Of God's work within campers through casual & more serious times.
Again feeling content & thinking she had the best of the best...
Snow melting, temps warming... maybe time for a rest.
One more surprise was waiting in store...
Her grandsons joined facebook asking to be friends & more
Requests to join mario brothers & build cities online...
It seemed very much to be a fun & fine time.
Pictures & posters began to come quick
All of their choosing & decision to pick.
Funwalls, emails & gifts that made her heart soar...
It was exciting & special & never a bore.
She realized it's like seeing through a new set of eyes...
What is meaningful, interesting & with wonder she sighs.
So, is this the rest of the story as Paul Harvey would say?
I'm not holding my breath or thinking ahead one day;
For each time I've hesitated, I've only missed out...
So whatever comes next, I'm ready & waiting without doubt.
The advancements have been fun & not one bit scary
I'm happy being a bit of a techy & feeling most merry.
