Last Thursday evening was the Fall Celebration Supper of Luseland Bible Camp. What a great time to reflect on God's work & anticipate what's next? Life stories were shared that melted our hearts. Many campers & staff attended & we hosted our version of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? A teacher & friend shared her perspective of coming to LBC as both a teacher with her class & a mom with her son. We launched our 1st ever mission team heading to Mexico City over Easter break. A team of LBC staff who I've worked & ministered with for at least one to two years. If I were to hand pick a group, I could not have been more pleased with each who applied. Each has shared an apprehension of stepping out of comfort zones, but a greater desire to serve God & see a new part of the world through His eyes. Each of us pray that we will be transformed through the preparation & journey. Much work will need to happen before then.
This past week our network team of C & M A women's ministry leaders from our area headed to Saskatoon for work & ministry at a drop-in centre there & take in seminar times with Mission Fest happenings. Glendyne Gerrard led her seminar Leading Tranformational Women's Ministries with our group Friday evening & then her passion Defend Dignity Saturday morning. We are grateful for times to care for the 'least of these' & are praying for God to break our hearts with what breaks His.
So, as CSSM paperwork is now completed. The October calendar was more busy than usual, but my exciting news is that we head to Cancun in 6 more sleeps. Ken, Corrie & Simpson will join us for 10 of those days & we purpose to do some quality bonding time with one special young man... & his parents:) as well as soak up some sun. Then on Nov 25th, we will return to Seattle, WA, Ed will fly home & I'll fly to Vancouver to connect with a group of women's ministry leaders from across Canada to travel to Laos. We'll be experiencing first hand the Alliance Women's international project from 2010/2011... Tricked, Trafficked, Treasurered. We'll be serving & working with Laotian women on their eco farm, meeting & ministering with young gals who have been rescued from the trafficking scene & more things I shall discover along the way.
I used to think that things like that happened mostly overseas. Ben Perrin's book 'Invisible Chains' opened my eyes to a more realistic picture of happenings in our country. It is truly heart breaking. We are on the cutting edge of laws being made. I'm learning that each person's voice means much. I would encourage you to check out the www.defenddignity.ca website. It's on facebook too. If you click 'like' you will receive updates of laws in the making, evidence being mis-represented & sample letters you can use to contact your member of parliament. The site is a wealth of information & helps us to be informed.... education is key for us to be informed & for young women worldwide to live lives of dignity & respect.
Funny moment... I do find it appalling that the old muscle shirts are now referred to as 'wife beaters' & even more so that all seem to know to what that phrase refers. Our staff over the summer called them 'wife appreciation shirts'. They smiled when they said it, but somehow I liked the happening.
Your prayer support, encouragement & givings mean so very much to me! Thank you for pouring into my life in such significant ways. On my own, I know I can do nothing of lasting value, but with God... all things are possible. We serve a BIG God who overwhelms me with His plans & timelines!! Blessings in life, family & ministries!!!
